Podemos calls on the PSOE to unblock the Trans Law and not prolong the process in Congress any longer due to its internal debate

MADRID, 25 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The spokesman for United We Can in Congress, Pablo Echenique, has demanded that the PSOE unblock the processing of the Trans Law in Congress and this Wednesday the period of amendments is closed, with an appeal to its government partner not to present modifications to the center points.

At a press conference in the Lower House, he warned the Socialists that every day that passes without advancing on this law, the transgender group suffers "tremendous" discrimination and that extending the process of amendments again, these people "will suffer" for longer . Therefore, he respects the internal debate that the PSOE may have but it should not affect the progress in the deployment of said law.

Precisely this Wednesday the term to register modifications to the legislative project ends, unless the Table of Congress decides tomorrow to further extend the term given to the groups to present their proposals.

Last week the socialists confirmed that they will not touch gender self-determination in the Trans Law, although they did recognize that they wanted to reinforce the legal certainty of the text by predicting that Vox will take it to the Constitutional. They also expressed doubts about the comparison of some types of violence to gender violence that occurs against women within a relationship with a partner or ex-partner (known as intra-gender violence).

For his part, Echenique has indicated that he is "hopeful" that this rule will be definitively approved at the end of the year, although he does not understand why there is still a blockade on a text that aroused consensus within the Executive.

Regarding the internal debate within the PSOE on this regulation, Echenique has said that this matter is not about the socialists or Podemos, but about trans people and the measures to prevent hate crimes against the group and that they suffer discrimination in aspects essentials of daily life, such as accessing a rental apartment.

"I respect the debates of other parties but the deputies are here to protect the human rights of people," the spokesman for the confederal group settled during his appearance.
