Planas responds to Díaz: "No one has in their hands the possibility of setting prices"

MADRID, 9 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, has called for "responsibility" from the entire agri-food chain and especially from distribution, which has to adopt "autonomous business decisions".

"Obviously no one has in his hand, neither from a common sense point of view, nor from a legal point of view, the possibility of setting prices or indicating prices to distribution. It is a matter that has to be done in accordance with the rules of the functioning of the society of our market and the rules of the European Union itself", Planas affirmed in statements to Aragón TV collected by Europa Press.

This is how the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food pronounced himself after the Second Vice President of the Government and Minister of Labor and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz, yesterday proposed to large retailers a shopping basket of basic products with "frozen" prices " or "limited", which must vary each week, include protein and fresh (fish, meat, fruit, eggs and vegetables), products for celiacs and be available to families at least until after Christmas.

"What the Government is asking for, which is what I am asking for as Minister of Agriculture and Food, is that each link in the chain assumes its responsibility and that we all be aware that, obviously, an excessive increase in prices for citizens affects to their style and their living conditions", Planas pointed out, adding that "there is a position of the Government, defended by all the members of the Government, starting with the president".

In the current context marked by the war in Ukraine, Planas has urged the distribution and all the elements of the chain to adopt measures to the best of their ability to limit this price increase, taking into account the proper functioning of the chain and the profit margin of each of the links.
