Pedro Sánchez: "I am convinced that we will also be world champions with the Absolute"

MADRID, 31 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, received this Wednesday at the Palacio de la Moncloa the U-20 women's team, last world champion in Costa Rica, a milestone that makes the president convinced that this successful generation will be " world champion also in absolute terms".

"With the wickers that there are, I am convinced that not only will we compete with many guarantees in the Absolute but that we will also be world champions in absolute terms when it is the World Cup," said Sánchez during the reception for the national team.

The president defined as "an honor" and "a pride" to be before such a generation. "The president of the CSD told me that you were already U-17 world champions, U-19 European champions and now you have achieved the milestone of making history by winning the U-20 world championship", he pointed out.

The president thanked the team trained by Pedro López for their "work", for the "competition" and for having "inspired the entire country". "In the end, we have all recognized ourselves in you, even those of us who don't know as much about football as I do, you have made us enjoy your game and be inspired," Sánchez explained.

"I think that women's football is that spearhead, that vanguard of a women's sport that is expanding, having much more brilliance, more dignity and that I think should be reciprocated by public administrations," he said.

The chief executive wanted to emphasize that this reception is a great opportunity to "give visibility to all the talent" of the team and to "work that is often not public", but that the players have had to develop "from a very early age" , as well as the "sacrifice that all this has entailed" for them, their families, the clubs and the Federation until culminating in that success.

Sánchez recalled the "decided commitment to sport and in particular to women's sport" made by the Government. "Of all the European funds, Spain is the only country that has a pillar dedicated solely and exclusively to sport, and when we talk about sport we want to talk about women's sport, which is giving us so much joy in many disciplines and especially in football," he added. .

"For me it is nothing more than a pride to welcome you here as world champions, to wish you many more successes, that you also enjoy this special moment and to pass on the recognition of the Government of Spain and I think that of the whole of Spanish society, and thanks to your coaches, your clubs and families, who I am sure have helped you to be where you are today since you were very young", concluded Sánchez.

On the part of the national team, its captain, Ana Tejada, took the floor, confessing that this reception was "a pride". "We know that it is an effort and it is a good reflection of what we are achieving, that we are on the right track, making history," she celebrated.
