The former basketball player Pau Gasol stated that he has "very much enjoyed" his career as a player in teams such as the Lakers, the Spanish team or FC Barcelona, after receiving from the hands of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, at the Moncloa Palace the Great Sports Merit Cross.
"I have enjoyed it a lot and I have tried to transmit values, be faithful to the person I am and be an example, since I was lucky that basketball is a very popular sport in Spain and the world. I felt that responsibility to be able to reach the little ones," he said in his acceptance speech.

I have been lucky enough to play the sport that I love since I was 6 years old. I started with the illusion of playing with the better and, with a lot of work and the help of my family, I have been able to reach a place that in the best of my dreams I would not have imagined", he commented.
Likewise, the eldest of the Gasols highlighted the work of the CSD in training and inclusion because sport is a "great educator", as well as making himself available to the Government and its president, Pedro Sánchez, a "great sports fan" .
