Ocean Winds, the alliance of EDPR and Engie, will develop new offshore wind projects in Scotland for 2.3 GW

MADRID, 23 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Ocean Winds (OW), the offshore wind joint venture of EDP Renewables (EDPR) and Engie, has been appointed preferred bidder for seabed leasing options for two adjacent sites in Scottish waters reaching a capacity of 2 .3 gigawatts (GW) at depths that will require floating technology, the company reported.

Specifically, the first project awarded within the framework of ScotWind's leasing authorization round is a 1.8 GW wind farm that was awarded to the alliance between Ocean Winds and Mainstream Renewable Power, located to the East of the Shetland Islands and about 100 meters deep, approximately.

The partners have committed to developing industrial-scale floating offshore wind power in Scotland, creating new opportunities and local jobs in Scotland and the Shetland Islands.

For its part, the second project is a 500-megawatt (MW) site, also east of Shetland and within the proposed area in ScotWind's NE1 block. It will allow Ocean Winds to advance its ambition to realize commercial-scale floating offshore wind projects around the world.

These adjacent sites add to the development rights to the 429 square kilometer block NE4 in the Moray Firth that was already awarded to Ocean Winds during the ScotWind process last January – the two GW Caledonia offshore wind farm.

Currently, OW operates, builds and develops three offshore wind projects in Scotland (Moray East -950 MW-, Moray West -882 MW- and Caledonia -up to 2 GW-). With these new awards, OW now has a total portfolio of 6.1 GW in the country's waters.
