Montero wants Puigdemont to be handed over before the legislature ends after the CJEU ruling

MADRID, 1 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Finance and Public Function, María Jesús Montero, hopes that the former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont will be handed over to Spain before the end of this legislature after the ruling of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) that has sided with the magistrate of the Supreme Court Pablo Llarena when ruling that the Belgian Justice cannot reject the delivery of those accused by the 'procés' claimed to be tried in Spain.

"Hopefully before the end of the legislature it can take place," said the minister in an interview on Telecinco, collected by Europa Press, when asked if she believes that Puigdemont will come to Spain before the municipal and regional elections on May 28 .

Montero has indicated that it is an "aspiration and a clamor" of all the people who consider that when one breaks the law and has to answer to justice "it can be judged in Spain for the very serious incidents that took place in 2017".

"I honestly think that we are closer to this happening and moving in the right direction," said the head of the Treasury, who has taken the opportunity to make the PP ugly by accusing the Government of putting "a red carpet" against the former Catalan leader.

Thus, he has stressed that the CJEU ruling highlights the fact that the Government has "always" worked so that Puigdemont answers to justice and that, in addition, it represents an "endorsement" for the Spanish justice system after it has been discredited in Europe by the independentistas, has settled.
