Liz Truss surrounds herself with new faces to leave the Johnson era behind

Remodels the main portfolios, although it maintains the head of Defense

MADRID, 6 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Liz Truss, has outlined this Tuesday a Government marked by the practically general remodeling of the front line, despite the fact that no major political changes are expected in relation to the era of Boris Johnson.

Truss incorporates as deputy prime minister the deputy Thérèse Coffey, who will also act as head of the Health portfolio, while in Finance he has opted for Kwasi Kwarteng, a legislator with experience in economic fields.

At the head of Foreign Affairs – a portfolio that Truss herself leaves behind – will be James Cleverly, who has already held lower positions in this Ministry and was until now Minister of Education. In Interior, the 'premier' has appointed Suella Braverman, a candidate in the recently concluded conservative primaries, while Justice will be assumed by Brandon Lewis, who resigned in July as head of the British Government for Northern Ireland.

Within the main portfolios, the only one that repeats is Ben Wallace as head of Defense, at a key moment due to the military aid that the United Kingdom provides to Ukraine to face the Russian invasion.

The new prime minister has also extended the changes to the 'tory' bench in the House of Commons. For the first time under a Conservative government, it will be a woman, Wendy Morton, who will be responsible for maintaining parliamentary discipline.

Truss entered Downing Street on Tuesday as prime minister, shortly after Queen Elizabeth II received her at the Balmoral residence (Scotland). She thus completes a renewal process that began on July 7 with the announcement of Johnson's resignation.
