Indra, Renault, MásMóvil and four other firms will develop a connected vehicle prototype

MADRID, 4 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

A group of companies made up of Alsa, GMV, Indra, Masermic, MásMóvil, Renault Group and Sigma have launched the R3CAV project, through which they will develop various technologies linked to autonomous and connected vehicles.

The partners of the group began their work remotely due to the pandemic, but they have met for the first time in person at the Valladolid research center of the French automotive company to discuss the progress of the project, framed in European funds.

Among the initiatives to be developed is a prototype of an autonomous vehicle for the industrial environment at the Renault factory in Palencia, as well as an autonomous shuttle vehicle for the city of Alcobendas, according to a statement.

One of the firm's objectives is to develop a platform that serves as an adaptable and modular shuttle for the transport of people on urban circuits that goes from a level of automation L2 (advanced driving assistance systems) to a level L3 (low supervision ).

In addition, autonomous navigation, positioning, connectivity and communication systems are also being developed with a view to developing 5G communications technology for types of vehicles.

Among the lines of work of the project, whose acronym responds to the initials in English of 'Autonomous, Robust, Reliable and Resiliently Connected Vehicle for transporting people', there is also the development of an adaptable architecture that adapts to different levels of autonomy .

In addition, the project has the collaboration of seven research centers, four universities (UPM, UC3M, UMU and UMH) and three technology centers (Tecnalia, CTAG and Tekniker).

The Engineering Director of the Renault Group in Spain, José González-Para, highlighted the experience of the firm's engineers and the possibility of developing relevant technologies in the automotive field.

For its part, Indra will focus its role on coordinating the 'Connected Infrastructure' activity and contributing with its technology to enable high levels of automated driving thanks to real-time monitoring of the controlled environment of Palencia with LIDAR cameras and sensors.

In addition, the technology company will implement different 5G services and technology such as video cameras on board the Alcobendas pilot buses.
