Illa (PSC) defends a self-government consultation in Catalonia but "not one for self-determination"

BARCELONA, 14 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The leader of the PSC, Salvador Illa, has been in favor of holding a self-government consultation in Catalonia but "in no case a consultation for a break, for self-determination."

"If, as a result of the dialogue between Catalans and their parties, a consensus and a minimum agreement are reached on how to organize the self-government of Catalonia that is the responsibility of the Catalan community, I agree and it would seem good to me," he said in an interview in 'El Confidencial' collected this Wednesday by Europa Press.

Illa does not see this consultation as immediate, but believes that "it may be the subject of discussion", and stresses that the Catalan socialists will not position themselves in favor of a consultation for the independence of Catalonia, something that for them is a red line, in her words .

He has pointed out that a consultation to ratify an agreement that the Catalan political parties have been able to reach "is an option that falls within the framework of possibilities" of the PSC.

Asked if he would be president of the Government or make a bipartisan with ERC if the PSC won 40 or 42 seats in the next regional elections, Illa replied: "If I get more than 40 deputies, my idea is to try a solo government. If some They discuss it with me, I will remind them that they are governing with 33. And if I cannot alone, I would seek the necessary support."

He has pointed out that he does not believe that the Government "is in a position to finish the legislature in 2025", and verbatim assures that it is the weakest Government in the history of Catalonia.

When asked if the PSC will approve the Generalitat's budget for 2023, he has said that he is in a position to negotiate it, and has affirmed that, in what depends on the PSC, "Catalonia is going to have a budget to rescue it from the failure of the Government of Pere Aragones".

He has opted to negotiate the budgets with ERC "on an equal footing", and has indicated that Catalonia will not have approved accounts before the end of the year because, in his opinion, Aragonès has had an erratic attitude.
