Gazprom resumes gas supply to Italy through Austria

MADRID, 5 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Russian gas monopoly Gazprom has restored the transit of gas to Italy through the territory of Austria, after stating that, together with Italian buyers, it has found a solution regarding the regulatory changes in Austria.

"Gazprom, together with Italian buyers, managed to find a solution on the interaction format in the context of the regulatory changes that took place in Austria at the end of September," the Russian company announced.

Thus, the Austrian operator announced its readiness to confirm Gazprom Export's transport nominations, allowing Russian gas supplies through Austria to resume.

Last Saturday, the Russian consortium announced the suspension of the supply of gas to Italy through Austria, considering that the Austrian authorities were not complying with the distribution protocols, after the changes in the regulation introduced at the end of September.

Until the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, Italy received about 40% of its gas from Russia. Later, the Government of Rome and Eni, partially controlled by the Italian state, signed agreements with several other countries, such as Algeria, to minimize dependence on Moscow.

In recent months, Italy only got around 25% of its gas from Russia. In recent days, the quantities supplied have fallen considerably.
