Garriga rejects "palatial intrigues" that want to "damage" Vox after relieving Ortega Smith in the General Secretariat

He defends that his function as Secretary General will be compatible with the Spokesperson in Catalonia

MADRID, 7 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The new general secretary of Vox, Ignacio Garriga, has framed this Friday as normal the internal changes that the party is making and has rejected "palace intrigues" that he sees as the result of an "orchestrated campaign" with the aim of "damaging" the formation of Santiago Abascal.

Garriga made his debut this Friday before the media at the national headquarters of Vox after the party announced by surprise this Thursday that the National Executive Committee had decided on his appointment as general secretary to replace Javier Ortega Smith, who will occupy one of the three vice-presidencies of the formation and was confirmed as a candidate for Mayor of Madrid.

"Vox is focused on what is important, on building the alternative and offering hope to the Spaniards. All this type of speculation, this attempt at palace intrigue, is part of an orchestrated campaign and a clear will, which is to weaken the true alternative that can restore hope and well-being and prosperity to all Spaniards", he defended after Ortega Smith's departure was related to the open crisis with his former teammate Macarena Olona.

In this sense, Garriga has assured that he spoke on the phone with Ortega Smith, who wished him luck in the "enormous" task as secretary general. "As a good patriot that I am, I am going to try to improve what I have received to pass it on to the next one", he proclaimed.

In addition, he has not wanted to reveal if he will make changes in the team that until now accompanied the secretary general, justifying that he has not been appointed "not even 24 hours" and does not even know all the deputy secretaries.

In any case, he has praised the entire Vox team and its representatives throughout Spain. "There is nothing more important than that. Changes or no changes is not the object of the day", she has repeated several times.

Garriga has been convinced of being able to make the new position compatible with that of spokesperson for Vox in Catalonia, despite the fact that Ortega Smith has justified that he was leaving the General Secretariat because it was incompatible with dedicating all his time to the candidacy for the Madrid City Council.

To be able to do so, he first thanked his family, but he also said that the important thing is to have a team. Of course, he has guaranteed that he will "never" leave Catalonia and will continue there "fighting" to "recover the freedom" of its citizens.

One of Garriga's first tasks will be the preparation of the lists for the municipal and regional elections in May of last year, which are entirely decided by the management from Madrid at the proposal of the general secretary.

As he explained, the party has been working on it for "a few weeks" and is now willing to put itself "at the orders" of the president. "Rolling up my sleeves and learning from the work of my colleagues," she has said.
