Ferrari president says there have been "too many mistakes" in the team

MONZA (ITALY), 10 Sep. (dpa / EP) -

Ferrari chief executive John Elkann has given his backing to Formula 1 team boss Mattia Binotto but demanded improvements across the 'Scuderia' after the 'Scuderia' made "too many mistakes" this season.

"There is no doubt that the work at Maranello, in the pits, on the pit wall and on the steering wheel needs to improve," Elkann told La Gazzetta dello Sport during the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, before showing his confidence in Binotto. .

After a promising start to the season with Monegasque Charles Leclerc a possible world title contender, a series of mistakes by Ferrari have seen Red Bull and Max Verstappen stand out in the standings.

"There have been too many mistakes. Trusting Binotto and his team was the right decision and it was worth it. It is thanks to them that we are competitive again and we won again. But I am not satisfied because I think we can do better," he stressed.

Binotto, a former Ferrari engineer, has been team principal since January 2019. The Italians have not won the Drivers' World Championship since 2007. Elkann is hoping for a title before the next major engine overhaul in 2026, with Leclerc "in top position" .
