Feijóo says that he will not use the ERE ruling as he did with Gürtel Sánchez, whom he urges to purge responsibilities

The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has assured this Tuesday that he will not use the Supreme Court ruling on the ERE case that condemns Manuel Chaves and José Antonio Griñán as the president of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, whom he has summoned to "make decisions" and "purify responsibilities" after the decision of the high court.

"I am not going to use any case, no matter how devastating it may be, even if it is the most serious of the 40 years of democracy", Feijóo has proclaimed, after the TS has confirmed the conviction of the former presidents of the Andalusian Government for the use of regional subsidies for Employment Regulation Files (ERE). The first received 9 years of disqualification for prevarication, while the second was sentenced to 6 years in prison for prevarication and embezzlement, which now places him one step away from entering prison.

In his speech before the Executive Committee of the PP, Feijóo has stated that the PP will not use this case to "discredit everything" the PSOE or to "discredit all political activity" that takes place in Spain as they did in the past with the PP.

Thus, he recalled that Sánchez acted like this with the Gürtel case, with a sentence "much less serious that affected the PP" than the current sentence of the Supreme Court on the ERE. "Although we know it, although we know it, although it is already within the democratic history of Spain, that is not going to condition me because my goal is not to be Pedro Sánchez," he asserted.

That said, the president of the 'popular' has pointed out that once the Justice has issued a sentence and "the polls too", now the PSOE "is responsible for making decisions and purging responsibilities."
