Feijóo criticizes the "fiscal populism" of the Government and warns of an invasion of powers and legal insecurity

The leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has harshly criticized this Friday the "fiscal populism" of the Government of Pedro Sánchez which, in his opinion, is credited with his fiscal proposal and his new tax on large fortunes. He has also pointed out that these measures lead to the invasion of powers and legal uncertainty due to double taxation.

In his speech at the IV edition of the La Toja Forum 2022 that is held in A Toxa (Pontevedra) and that this Thursday was inaugurated by the King, Feijóo has criticized that in a matter of days the Executive has gone from "ignoring and underestimating" the drops in imposed to be "overwhelmed" by that debate, finally presenting a proposal that he has branded as "confused, improvised and incomplete".

The head of the opposition has criticized that the Government has recovered "cliches" that should be overcome to announce a "tax against something or someone" which, in his opinion, is "an error" that reproduces the "populist dialectic".

"It is fiscal populism", he has proclaimed, to add that lowering the tax pressure "is not right or left but common sense" and "respect for the taxpayer". Moreover, she has pointed out that a minister came to declare that some of the measures announced this Thursday "were not on the table 24 hours before being announced."

The leader of the PP has criticized that the Government is not going to lower taxes in 2022 despite inflation and that it does not act on the increase in the shopping basket either. After ensuring that tax measures "directly reduce the competitiveness of companies", he has warned of the "invasion of regional competition and, therefore, the legal uncertainty that this double taxation affects".

In fact, he has pointed out that this last argument was the one used by the Minister of Finance to reject months ago the tax on large fortunes proposed by Podemos. That said, she has presented the PP as an alternative to the Government of Pedro Sánchez and has opted to set up a "new social contract" with citizens.

It is the first time that Feijóo intervenes in this forum in his capacity as leader of the PP. In previous editions he had done so as president of the Xunta de Galicia. This Friday a dialogue is also planned between the former presidents of the Government Mariano Rajoy and Felipe González.
