Echenique affirms that the PSOE does not want to sit down to negotiate the reform of the 'yes is yes': "We do not want a public war"

MADRID, 19 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The spokesman for Unidas Podemos, Pablo Echenique, has assured that "unfortunately and incomprehensibly" the PSOE does not want to sit down to negotiate the reform of the 'only yes is yes' law, and has stressed that his formation will continue trying because "this is solve through dialogue.

Echenique has defended that Podemos is working with "discretion", since they do not want a "public war of proposals". "We want that at the moment that the Ministry of Equality presents a proposal, it is the agreement proposal. And we want that to avoid going to a plenary session in Congress, where the PSOE can approve the processing of a law with the votes of PP and Vox, which returns to the Penal Code of the pack," he assured.

In this sense, he has insisted that from Podemos they do not seek "visibility". "If that were the case, we would make a lot of proposals public or we would be the ones who would introduce a unilateral law in Congress. But we have not done that, it has been the PSOE," he stressed.

Finally, Echenique has stressed that they are trying to protect consent at the center of the Penal Code to avoid "a return to the ordeal of evidence in which the woman had to demonstrate with injuries on her body that she had risked her life before a sexual offender " .

"It is too important an issue for anyone to have to think about electoral tactics or visibility. We are working to protect consent and we want to make a proposal public when there is an agreement within the government, also to protect the unity of the government from coalition," he said.

Echenique made these statements this Sunday in Madrid before participating in a program workshop with regional and municipal officials responsible for their training.
