Citizens support their deputies in Congress and are unaware that exits are being prepared

MADRID, 20 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The national spokesperson for Ciudadanos, Patricia Guasp, has transferred this Monday her confidence in all the deputies of the formation in Congress, the majority of whom bet on Edmundo Bal in the primaries, and has said that "she is not aware" that any of them plan to renounce their minutes before the end of the legislature, in the context of the serious situation that the formation is going through.

Members of the 'orange' parliamentary group show their pessimism regarding the May elections and regret that the party has no opportunity to obtain good results, according to sources from the group itself, who also highlight the internal discontent.

And it is that the parliamentary group was divided after the clash between Arrimadas and the deputy spokesman, Edmundo Bal: seven of the nine deputies supported the former deputy general secretary in his fight for the leadership of the party. Bal was revalidated as deputy spokesman but the management put a coordinator over him, Guillermo Díaz, the only deputy who was next to Arrimadas.

Given this, in the group there are deputies who have decided not to run again in the general elections and some are even considering abandoning their minutes in the coming weeks or months to return to private activity.

"I am not aware that any deputy has officially conveyed the decision or sentiment (to leave the parliamentary group)", Guasp settled this Monday at a press conference from the party's national headquarters, where he expressed his "confidence" in all deputies of the lower house. In parallel, he has ensured that the Standing Committee has not addressed this matter during its meeting on Monday.

Internally, Guasp has also alluded to the situation that the party is going through in Aragon, the only territory in which Ciudadanos has not yet designated its candidate for the regional elections in May. The primaries have been temporarily suspended due to a lack of candidates and the management is evaluating possible options, without closing the door on holding this vote or for the Autonomous Committee to make a proposal.

In her speech, the national spokesperson has advanced that the 'orange' leadership has not yet made a decision and that the national coordinator, Carlos Pérez-Nievas, will visit different territories of Aragon this week and next.

Likewise, it has reported that, despite the fact that Aragon has the number of affiliates required to celebrate primaries --350--, the statutes also include the possibility that the Autonomous Committee be the one that proposes a name that will later have to be ratified by the Standing Committee. In addition, he has downplayed the fact that the candidate is not yet known since "there is no established calendar" to present a head of the list.

On the other hand, Guasp has reported that the Standing Committee has ratified some candidates for the municipal elections on Monday and has approved the composition of the remaining regional committees. Also, they have adopted a calendar of pre-campaign events that Ciudadanos is going to celebrate in March and have guaranteed that it will be known "in the next few days."

It has advanced that next week, on March 2 and 3, a European event will take place in which members of Renew Europe (Renew Europe), the liberal group to which Citizens are attached in the European Parliament, will participate. They will visit Madrid and meet with the management on Thursday to "assess the political situation in Spain" and "how to face the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU)", in the words of Guasp.

There will also be an event that the Secretary General, Adrián Vázquez, also an 'orange' spokesman in the European Parliament, will open and she herself will close. It will be made up of two panels, one on the economy and the other on European values. Lastly, on Friday they will visit the Madrid City Hall, where they will meet the deputy mayor, Begoña Villacís.
