Citizens seek support to compensate for the rise in mortgages with a reduction in personal income tax

MADRID, 25 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Citizens will defend this week in the plenary session of Congress a temporary and extraordinary deduction in the Tax on Physical Persons (IRPF) to deduct up to 400 euros and compensate for the increase in interest rates as a result of the rise in mortgages.

The proposal of the 'orange' formation is included in a motion, a consequence of the question addressed last Wednesday to the Vice President of Economic Affairs, Nadia Calviño, in the control session of the Government.

That day, both the president of Cs, Inés Arrimadas, and her economic spokesperson, María Muñoz, called on the Executive to take advantage of the increase in collection to adopt measures and compensate for the higher cost of mortgages after the rate hike.

Cs justifies this measure in the need to accompany with fiscal policies the rate hike decreed by the European Central Bank (ECB) and the forecast that the cost of mortgages referenced to the Euribor will continue to increase in the coming months.

And it is that, as he recalls in his motion, collected by Europa Press, it is the largest increase since the entry into circulation of the euro, after raising 50 basis points in July to get out of the negative rates and, in September, raising them others 75 points.

According to the calculations exposed by this formation, the additional cost in a mortgage signed last year with a variable rate would amount to 1,412 euros per year. In 2021, they highlight, more than 37% of the mortgages signed were constituted at a variable rate.
