Carolina Marín authoritatively beats Nidaira and advances to the semifinals in Canada

MADRID, 1 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Spanish badminton player Carolina Marín authoritatively defeated the Japanese Natsuki Nidaira in two games (21-10 and 21-19) to advance firmly to the semifinals of the Canadian Open, asserting her status as first seed in the tournament .

The woman from Huelva, who had just made her debut in Calgary with a hard-fought comeback against the Swiss Jenjira Stadelmann, played a very serious match against Nidaira and will be able to fight this Saturday to be in the final of the North American tournament. Her rival will be the Chinese Taipei player Sung Shuo Yun, who comfortably beat the seventh favorite, the French Léonice Huet.

The match between the Spanish and the Japanese began evenly, until Marín raised the intensity from 3-3 in the first game, opening a set would be unattainable for Nidaira, who finally fell in this first set by a resounding 21-10.

However, the second game started with a much more concentrated Japanese, who made it 0-5 at the start. This woke up Marín, who was always behind in the second set, until he was able to get 15-15 and fight for a much more even endgame than the one seen in the first, to close the match with a 21- 19.

Carolina Marín will play the semifinals this Saturday night against Shuo Yun Sung, sixtieth in the world ranking, a rival she has never faced. Against the player from Chinese Taipei, she will have a great opportunity to reach her second final of 2022, after the one she achieved in the European Championship, a tournament in which she reappeared after her serious injury and in which she won the title, the her sixth continental trophy.
