Carlos Sainz: "We have to settle for fifth place, it's a good comeback"

MADRID, 24 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Spanish driver Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) applauded his "good comeback" in this Sunday's French Grand Prix race, although he confessed to being "a little frustrated", because "with more luck" he would have "been on the podium".

"It has been a good comeback, a pity to have that medium tire (very worn) after the 'safety car'... That has put us in doubt as to whether to stop or not, and the safe decision was to stop. We will have to analyze it with Calm down, I had a different impression, but the team had more information," the Madrid native told Dazn after the race.

The Spaniard started the test from 19th place, but Sainz completed a day of notable high, finishing fifth after a masterful comeback. However, when he moved up to third and the podium was close behind him, his worn tires forced Ferrari to order him into the pits.

"Being on the podium, it means that the race was very good. Without that bad 'pit stop' and more luck we could be on the podium, so maybe I'm a little frustrated. But we have to settle for this fifth, it's a good comeback", said the pilot, sanctioned with five seconds for an 'unsafe release' in the 'pit-lane'.

"She lost it at turn eleven, we've been fighting with her all weekend. We've all made mistakes, we're going very fast," he assessed the accident of his teammate, Charles Leclerc.
