Aznar warns that if the Government repeats victory "there will be a change of country" but he trusts Feijóo and his "moderation"

The former President of the Government José María Aznar has warned that if the current Government of Spain repeats victory in the next elections "there will be a change of country" but he has praised that Feijóo "correctly approaches moderation" and offers a "mature, serious" leadership , competent and that transmits confidence".

This has been stated this Sunday in an interview he has given to the newspaper 'El Mundo', collected by Europa Press, in which he affirms that Spain is in a "critically existential" time. "If the current ruling coalition had the possibility of repeating its victory and continuing to govern after the elections, there would be a change of country. And it is not desirable," he stressed.

Specifically, Aznar has detailed that if that happens there will be a constitutional mutation, a change of regime and a change in the Constitution. "It could be through a constituent process or through constitutional mutations that make the Constitution irreversible," he stated.

However, he considers that the PP "is in its place" and reiterates his support "without fissures and without reservations." "I believe that it is the appropriate leadership, I believe that the appropriate analyzes have been carried out and I believe that the correct strategy is being followed. And I hope that this leads to very favorable electoral results, not only for the PP, but for Spanish interests" , has assured.

Regarding Feijóo's strategy, Aznar highlights his idea of ​​adding, similar to his strategy in the 1990s, and asserts that the current popular leader is "competent." In addition, the former president asks the PP to have very clear reference points so that the voter is "very sure of what he is voting for, who he is voting for and what he expects."

"They have tried to destroy the PP on different occasions and it has not been possible, because it has very strong roots. And they must be preserved. For me there are key elements in this area. The idea of ​​the strength of the State and the strength of the nation. Without a strong nation and without a solid State, it is not possible for a decentralized State to survive," he specified.

In this sense, he has reaffirmed that the idea of ​​a strong nation and a solid State is important, aspects that are compatible and achievable with the autonomous State. The validity of constitutional values ​​and the principles of equality for all before the law is another of the basic principles that must be guaranteed. Respect for the law and the rule of law is an element ", he added.

On the other hand, regarding the PSOE, he has commented that it is not currently a pillar of the constitutional order. "I cannot say that it is a party that eliminates the crime of sedition, that eliminates the crime of embezzlement, that calls into question the concept of the Spanish nation, which is not capable of correctly defending equality before the law and the State. of Law, nor the sentences, or that uses the institutions in a partisan way. It is that we are not here for nuances, we are here to do big politics", he indicated.
