Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry has proposed bringing forward the next meeting with Armenia this month, instead of in November as previously agreed, due to growing tensions between the countries.

This Sunday Azerbaijan and Armenia met in Geneva in a bilateral meeting between the Foreign Ministries of both countries to draft a peace treaty, promoted by Brussels.

"During the meeting, the Azerbaijani side, taking into account the recent tension over the undelimited border, proposed to hold the next meeting of the bilateral commissions on delimitation in October this year, instead of November as previously agreed," reads the statement. statement from the Azerbaijani portfolio.

In this sense, the minister of Azerbaijan, Ceyhun Bayramov, has highlighted the importance of focusing the efforts between both states "on the signing of the peace treaty in the post-conflict period".

In addition, he mentioned the "importance of the total withdrawal of the Armenian armed units from the territories of Azerbaijan", as well as the opening of transport and communication lines.

Regarding the humanitarian matter, Bayramov has drawn attention to the need to clarify the fate of almost 4,000 missing Azerbaijanis. Likewise, he has denounced the placement by Armenia of land mines.

For his part, the Armenian minister, Ararat Mirzoyan, has also requested that the Azerbaijani troops withdraw and has urged the immediate repatriation of the Armenian prisoners of war. Thus, he has asked that the ceasefire be preserved "unconditionally".

Mirzoyan has assured that Armenia "will do everything possible to bring the guilty to justice." Along these lines, he underlined "the importance of the international community's condemnation of extrajudicial executions, torture and other war crimes committed by Azerbaijan".
