Armed individuals take control of the Palace of Justice in Haiti

MADRID, 11 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Armed bandits would have assaulted and taken control of the Palace of Justice in Haiti, as confirmed this Friday by the attorney general of Port-au-Prince, Jacques la Fontant, to the newspaper 'Gazette Haiti'.

The Haitian Justice headquarters, located in Port-au-Prince, is under the control of members of the 'Village de Dieu 5 Segond' gang, who allegedly attacked the Palace while carrying weapons and fired "in all directions," according to the statement of several witnesses collected by the Haitian media outlet 'Vant Bèf Info'.

In addition, several injuries would have been reported after the attackers' shots, although no fatalities have been confirmed, according to the aforementioned media.

La Fontant has detailed to the local media that at least four vehicles belonging to "government commissioners" would have been retained by the assailants.

This same gang has kidnapped this Friday 36 passengers in Port-au-Prince who were traveling in two minibuses to the city of Miragoane, in the Nippes department, in southern Haiti.

This is the third time that the Palace of Justice in Haiti has suffered an assault, since last May a group of armed men assaulted the same headquarters and looted the offices and offices of five judges and six deputy commissioners of the Government. In addition, in October 2021, several armed individuals broke down the doors and entered the offices of Judge Garry Orélien, who was in charge of the investigation into the assassination of then President Jovenel Moise.
