Alonso: "Being in the pomade is a good first step, but I hope to be more competitive"

The Spanish driver Fernando Alonso (Alpine) celebrated this Saturday "being in the pomade", a "good first step", although he hopes to "be more competitive" in this Sunday's race, which "same" is the "strong point" of the French team.

"I'm happy, in the end we had a bit of a weird weekend in terms of competitiveness, we have to see why. Being in the pomade is a good first step, but I hope to be more competitive and be close to Lando (Norris)," Alonso explained in statements to Dazn after qualifying for the French Grand Prix.

The Asturian will start from seventh place on the grid of the Paul Ricard Circuit, and Alonso recognized that they did not have the best performance in one lap. "Yesterday it seemed that we were doing well in race pace, behind Mercedes. Today we are seventh, just as our strong point is the race," the Spaniard wished.

"In theory it will be a stop because of how long the 'pit lane' is. In this heat we will have to drive more slowly, but we won't know until lap 15 or 20," Alonso said about the strategy for this Sunday.
