Angers, Toulouse, Grenoble, Lyon... Game at three in the Internet of things

in Angers, Toulouse, Grenoble-Lyon, we focus on objects connected with science parks or channels that are dedicated to them. What assets are these candidates for the title of French capital of the IoT?

The forecasts are always too optimistic, but it does not prevent: the potential of the Internet of things is a dream for entrepreneurs. And territories, which see it as a niche yet to be cleared, the opportunity to attract talent and jobs, and a relay of growth for the local industry.

Three cities in particular rely on connected objects: the pioneer of toulouse, the newcomer to the Angers and the ambitious coupling Lyon-Grenoble. With different strategies and strengths of their own.

Angers: a city for opening the doors of factories in the IoT

Inaugurated on June 12, 2015 by François Hollande, Emmanuel Macron and Axelle Lemaire, the City of the Object is Connected has the ambition to accelerate the transition to industrialization of the designers of connected objects.

It must be said that in terms of factories, the city of angers has the resource, with a rich fabric of companies in the electronics, mechanical, plastics... In pole position, Eolane, one of the big French subcontractors of electronic (3500 employees, with 400 million euros of turnover), the major shareholder of the City.

First network "theme" of the french tech, this technology park exclusively dedicated to the Internet of things is chaired by Eric Carreel (Withings). His ambition? Welcome to term 170 entrepreneurs in the IoT (40 today, including the nugget Qowisio), generating 400 jobs... And to increase synergies with the leading groups associated with the project, industrial companies (Orange, Docapost, Bouygues) and mutual societies (Harmony Mutual, Inter Mutuelle Assistance).

Toulouse: Sigfox and 40 young shoots

The second French division dedicated to IoT is located in Labège, on the outskirts of the Pink City, and is comprised of the pioneer Sigfox. Active since 2012, the association of entrepreneurs renamed IoT Valley has today a quarantine of a start-up promising, like Axible systems (ordering by phone), CityMeo (management of advertising screens at a distance) or Thingz (assembly kit of electronic objects).

The great strength of the IoT Valley? The link with powerful industrial projects already very concrete, that give the project toulouse, strong staining industrial, where Angers is positioned more on the services and the general public.

The SNCF wants to develop the sensors of its rails and machines, ERDF find solutions to reduce the number of electrical incidents and Airbus work on the connection of the environment of the aircraft.

Lyon-Grenoble: academic and industrial researchers on a war footing

Lyon, a local industry with powerful and diversified (chemistry, automotive, electronic...) and a role of a showcase with the Showroom of the Internet of things (SIdO), the most important trade show of its kind in our region. In Grenoble, a research hyper active and a true expertise in electronics and miniaturization, thanks to the labs from the CEA, STMicroelectronics...

With these two poles, the axis rhône-alpes intends to meddle in the match to become the French capital of the IoT. The sector is now much less structured than in Angers or Toulouse, but his potential is undeniable.
