20 000 job vacancies in tourism in Quebec

in Paris, the quebec minister of Tourism reiterated the importance attached by his government to be a key industry for the economy of la Belle province.

Floor of boots the riders, on a jean casual, Caroline Proulx is making great strides, whether in France or in Quebec. Appointed minister of Tourism of Quebec in October 2018, it has visited since the 17 regions of the province and met with more than 1400 entrepreneurs in the sector. She has bread on the board : the government must disclose the spring of next year an economic-growth strategy for the tourism industry for the coming five years. The minister has already announced an investment of $ 40 million this year to encourage the development of the activities of the most promising. Caroline Proulx : tourism is our third export product after the aerospace and aluminum. Revenue grew 4.9% in 2018, well above the growth of the sector at the global level (+3.3 per cent). The approximately 1900 direct flights arrive each year overseas on our territory by Montreal or Quebec, and we want to increase this volume. This summer, Montreal has seen the number of international tourists increased by 5%. The first contingent is represented by the Americans, the French came second - their number has increased from 11% in 2018 compared to 2017, a figure that is exceptional. But we also receive a lot of Germans, Mexicans, Brazilians, or Koreans, following the dissemination in their countries from a successful tour in Quebec city.

What are the prospects of development of tourism in quebec ?

We have just launched with the Prime minister François Legault, a product called "Exploring Quebec city" : this is to provide visitors with a package at a affordable price including flight + two nights accommodation + two activities to learn more about our remote territories - the Islands of the Madeleine, the Gaspé, the North Shore, the Saguenay Lac St-Jean, the Lower St. Lawrence, James Bay, the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region and Nunavik. Until now, the cost of the flights was a brake for the tourists. With these packages, available in the spring of next, we lift this brake thanks to a grant from the government : we will reduce by 25% the price of the ticket for a foreign tourist. The objective is also to lengthen the tourist season. Don't forget that our Prime minister is the former ceo of Air Transat : he knows these subjects from fixed price payments and customer experience ! Thanks to "Exploring Quebec city", we hope to generate 250 000 additional nights in four years, and more than 19 million canadian dollars in revenue.

What are the needs of the Québec labour in the tourism sector ?

The tourism industry in Quebec employs more than 400,000 workers. But we deplore the fact that 20,000 jobs were missing. First, in hospitality, mainly related to the positions of cooks, assistant cooks and attendants to housekeeping. Also in the sector of leisure and entertainment on the posts of maintainers of sites, trails, buildings, staff hospitality, ticketing, customer service. And finally, we are looking for lifeguards, instructors, and facilitators.

foreign workers they are welcome to fill these positions ?

With my colleague Jean Boulet, the minister of Labour, we have worked on a number of measures, for example, to promote the employment of experienced workers through a tax holiday offered to the employer if he hires a soixantenaire. Other measures have been taken to support the recruitment of temporary foreign workers : reimbursement for up to 50% of the costs for a recruitment mission abroad, for example with Québec International and Montréal International, or independent, in the limit of 5 000 $ cad per recruitment activity; reimbursement to the company of up to 50% of the fee paid for the relocation of an employee abroad (maximum of$ 1,000 cad per worker hired); reimbursement for up to 50 % fee to complete forms for the recruitment of temporary foreign workers (for example, to complete the impact study on the labour market), not to exceed 1 200 $ cad for a company.

This will do it ?

We will also launch in mid-December with the Alliance of Quebec's Tourism campaign of the valuation of the business of tourism, which will be released for eighteen months, on social networks, in institutions of education. She will be accompanied by the release of a new web site monemploientourisme.com. We need to make the business of tourism more attractive ! We are also working with Jean Boulet on the question of salaries, and incentives in a broad sense.

The French are they good candidates in your eyes ?

There is a know-how in the tourism industry in French-from which one cannot be deprived of Quebec. Add to this the fact that French-speaking represents our added value to Quebec : we have to choose our province for its spaces, its gastronomy but also for its language ! So the French are well-placed : there is nothing better than a nice "hello" to accommodate the tourists, it is our trade-mark in Quebec !
