Borrell calls for the immediate cessation of these "unacceptable actions"

MADRID, 9 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski has complained that Russia has bombed civilian evacuation points in flooded areas in Jerson, Ukraine, which are denied by the destruction of the dam of the Kajovka hydroelectric power plant.

"Russian terrorists are trying to further aggravate the situation they have caused with their ecocide. This is absolutely deliberate. They continue to shell Kherson and communities in the region, which have already been inundated by terrorists. They are even shelling evacuation points, which which is a manifestation of evil that perhaps no terrorist in the world, except the Russians, has ever done," Zelensky posted.

For his part, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, has asked Russia on his Twitter account to immediately stop these "unacceptable actions", and has assured that those responsible will be held accountable for another possible crime. of war.

The dam of the Kajovka hydroelectric power plant, 60 kilometers from the city of Jerson, was destroyed during Tuesday morning and has left numerous settlements in Jerson completely flooded. Authorities in both countries are evacuating residents of affected areas.

Pro-Russian leaders have confirmed the deaths of at least five people, while the Ukrainians have announced the flooding of some 600 square kilometers in the region.

Both Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of the destruction of the dam, which endangers the pumping of water to the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, the supply of water to the Crimean peninsula, under Russian control, and the destruction of populations and farmland on both banks of the Dnieper River.
