USO says that raising the SMI is a "priority" so as not to impoverish workers due to the increase in the CPI

Unión Sindical Obrera (USO) has assured that raising wages is the "top priority" so as not to continue impoverishing workers in the face of the rise in inflation, which this July has increased two tenths compared to the previous month, up to 2.3 %, according to data published this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

In a statement, the union has pointed out that "beyond these fluctuations of tenths from one month to the next", the problem lies in the fact that the "most outrageous" increases are primed with the most basic products, such as food, for which reason the inflation suffered is "higher".

"We can cut back on travel and leisure, but food has risen 25% in two years since 2021. That is something that no household can avoid," denounced USO's Secretary for Communication and Project Management, Laura Estévez.

Likewise, Estévez has predicted a worse August with a rise in fuel and energy prices, due to the successive heat waves, for which he has demanded a Minimum Interprofessional Salary (SMI) at 60% of the average salary that "shoots of the rest of the wages", as well as a reduction of the full time so that "the part-time shifts and, therefore, the partial wages do not proliferate, as they are doing".
