Urban service companies invoiced 8% more in 2022, up to 6,630 million, according to DBK

MADRID, 27 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The income of urban service companies increased by 8% in 2022 compared to the previous year, reaching 6,630 million euros, according to the DBK Sector Observatory of Informa, a subsidiary of Cesce.

The firm indicates that companies in the urban services sector have thus managed to consolidate the rebound after the stoppage caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, adding this increase to the 3.9% increase they had already achieved in 2021.

Behind this rise, the Observatory points out that there is the general economic reactivation and, therefore, a greater production of waste that has favored the recovery of the business.

Price revisions against a background of sharply rising costs and the inclusion of new services in contracts also accelerated the pace of revenue growth last year.

Specifically, the waste collection and transport area remained the area with the highest participation in the national market, with a turnover in 2022 of 2,145 million euros in revenue, 32.4% of the total for the sector, and a 6.2% compared to the previous year.

For its part, the waste treatment and disposal activity, which the Observatory categorizes as the "most dynamic in recent years", contributed an aggregate turnover of 2,050 million euros in 2022, representing 30.9% of the weight over the total, and 10.8% more than in 2021.

Street cleaning services are the third segment in terms of weight and importance in the sector, generating revenues of 1,455 million euros in 2022, with an increase of 6.2% compared to the previous year, and a weight in the market of 21.9%. . In the area of 'other services' (parks, gardens, other green areas and beaches), the interannual increase was 8.9% last year to 980 million in billing, 14.8% of the total for the sector.

According to data from the DBK Sectoral Observatory, the top five operators in terms of billing for the provision of urban services in Spain gathered close to 73% of the total market in 2022, while the first 10 companies concentrated 80.2% of the entire market .

Likewise, progress in the development of regulations on waste and the environment, and above all the growing environmental awareness, points out as a positive factor for companies in the sector in the medium term.
