Uniqlo sues Shein for allegedly copying one of its bags

MADRID, 16 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Fast Retailing, parent company of Japanese fashion brand Uniqlo, has filed a lawsuit against Roadget Business, Fashion Choice and Shein Japan, operators of the Shein retail brand, accusing them of allegedly copying the shape of the mini round shoulder bag. from the Japanese firm.

The complaint against the three companies, filed on December 28, 2023 in the Tokyo District Court, demands "the immediate cessation of sales of the imitation products and compensation for the damages suffered by the company as a result of these sales ".

Uniqlo, which operates 2,491 stores in 26 markets around the world, filed this complaint because it considered that the shape of the imitation products sold by Shein "closely resembles that of its own product," and their sale "significantly undermines" the customer confidence in the quality of the Uniqlo brand and its products.

As such, Fast Retailing has underlined its strong stance against any act that infringes its intellectual property, warning that it will take appropriate measures in response, including legal action.

The Chinese retailer Shein would be processing its confidential application to list in the United States from the end of 2023 through an initial public offering that could take place throughout this year.

A confidential filing allows companies to communicate with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and make necessary adjustments to the filing without public scrutiny.

In this way, the offering prospectus would only be made public once the company is ready to make the jump to the stock market, when communications with the SEC and any adjustments to the documentation will also be published.
