Ukraine manages to encircle the city of Bakhmut

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have managed in recent days to impose themselves in the vicinity of the city of Bakhmut, in the Donetsk region, thus controlling access to a town longed for by both parties in conflict for its strategic value.

"In Bakhmut, our defenders have been controlling the entrances, exits and movement of the enemy through the city for several days," Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar reported on her Telegram channel on Monday.

According to Maliar, these advances have been possible thanks to the fact that, in the counteroffensive process, Ukrainian troops have managed to capture some of the main Russian military checkpoints in the vicinity of Bakhmut.

The commander of the Land Forces of the Ukrainian Army, Oleksander Sirskii, asserted this Monday that the Russian Armed Forces deployed in Bakhmut are really "in a trap", and little by little they are forced to abandon their positions.

UK military intelligence already noted over the weekend that Ukrainian forces had made "sustained advances" around Bakhmut, a town that is once again the scene of intense fighting.

Russia achieved control of Bakhmut at the end of May thanks to the performance of the Wagner Group mercenaries, who, after taking the city, abandoned their positions and handed over command to the regular troops. Since then, Ukraine has worked hard to reconquer the town.
