Txus Vidorreta: "This format does not benefit us because we are a very veteran team"

"Now it's a funeral but we have done a better Cup than expected"

BADALONA, 19 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Lenovo Tenerife coach, Txus Vidorreta, congratulated Unicaja on their victory in the Copa del Rey final, a competition whose format he assured did not benefit his team, as it is "very veteran", and asked for a change in the calendar, although he recognized that the typesetters were better in the final minutes.

"We are proud, it is the first final that we have lost with this squad, we have won three previous ones. We lost one of the 'Champions' in Antwerp. We have played a lot of finals and so far we are a team with more wins than losses in finals. And this format of The Cup does not benefit us because we are a very veteran team," he said at a press conference.

Vidorreta congratulated Unicaja and its players, Ibon Navarro and his coaching staff, and stressed that they were "the best in the tournament". "They are fair winners. For us it was an incredible challenge to be able to play 40 minutes at the top in this final, we have played 3 games in just over 50 hours and that in the end has weighed," he lamented.

"While we have been able to bring oxygen to the brain and control our pace, we have been ahead, but then it was very difficult to attack and after attacking badly we did not have the best defensive actions either," he explained in this regard.

Despite the fact that right after the final the atmosphere in the locker room was like a "funeral", he believes they had a good Cup. "We have done a much better Cup than we could have expected after having played so many games in a few days. As Foresaw, we noticed the absence of Joan Sastre, a man who would have given minutes of freshness. Having said that, they made the important shots and we didn't", he qualified.

"We always feel very supported and supported. I think the fans are proud of us, we thank them. It was an unexpected and long-awaited final. The calendar made it very difficult for me to foresee that we would beat Joventut. But the players had a special start of fury that had an impact on me to say 'we can'. But in the end they were better than us", he valued.
