Trump urges Republicans to defund Justice Department and FBI after his indictment

MADRID, 5 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Former US President Donald Trump has urged his fellow Republican Party members in Congress on Wednesday to defund the Department of Justice and the FBI "until they come to their senses", a day after appearing in court in New York after being accused of more than thirty charges.

Trump considers himself the victim of a political persecution for which he blames the Democrats, who "have turned the judicial system into a weapon" and resort to "abuse of power" to influence the next elections, which the New York tycoon wants to reach again as a candidate.

In this sense, he has insisted on his social network, Truth Social, that "there is no solid case" against him. "People, however, will see what is happening and will not allow it to continue," Trump said, in a series of messages posted hours after his unprecedented court appearance.

Trump, with several open legal fronts, is the first ex-president to be charged in the history of the United States. The charges filed derive from the payment of $130,000 to the porn actress Steffanie Clifford, better known as Stormy Daniels, and that she made a few days before the 2016 elections, supposedly to buy her silence about an alleged extramarital affair.
