Trump names new lawyer hours before turning himself in in Georgia

MADRID, 24 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The former president of the United States, Donald Trump, has changed his team of lawyers just a few hours before turning himself in to the Georgia authorities, within a process in which he is being investigated for trying to reverse the results of the 2020 elections.

Until now, Trump had had Drew Findling as his main defender in Georgia, but he has decided to appoint Steven Sadow in his place, specializing in "white-collar and high-profile" cases, as the description of his work on his website says.

Sadow stressed in a statement that "the president should never have been charged" in this case because, in fact, "he is innocent of all charges," reports CNN. The Prosecutor's Office considers, however, that he was part of a criminal network that tried to change the electoral results.

In total, 19 people are charged in this case and all of them have until Friday at noon to turn themselves in. Trump has already announced that he will do it this Thursday, which will lead to the dissemination of a symbolic mugshot and will force him to pay a $ 200,000 bail in exchange for not going to prison and remaining on provisional release.
