Transport will pay Defense for the purchase of land for the 20,000 homes announced by Sánchez

The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and the Urban Agenda will have to pay the Ministry of Defense for the acquisition of the land on which the 20,000 public homes announced this Tuesday by the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, will be built.

This was revealed this Wednesday in the halls of Congress by the Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, who explained that the agreement will be approved "in the coming days" by the Council of Ministers and it will be then when the location of those properties will be detailed.

In any case, Robles has detailed that the agreement involves the purchase of the land by the Sepes (State Land Entity) from the Ministry of Defense, since the law does not allow the transfer without economic consideration.

These are areas that are no longer in use by the Ministry of Defense or are of interest for national defense. What's more, they represent a significant economic burden for Defense due to their maintenance, Robles has detailed.

For this reason, he has celebrated that it is a "magnificent" agreement for everyone: "For Defense because it will have an income for its needs and for Sepes because it will have land for the construction of public housing," he stressed.

The sale, agreed after "months" of negotiations between the Sepes and the Defense Housing Institute (INVIED), will allow the Armed Forces to spend that money "on national defense needs."

"The Law does not allow the Defense to assign the land for free, but rather it must necessarily receive a consideration," insisted the minister, who has advanced that it is land distributed throughout "the entire national territory."

"They are properties in different parts of the national geography and that the Ministry has not used for years - he has detailed -. For Defense it is a good operation because the Sepes is going to pay money that will be invested in national defense needs" .
