Timo Werner misses World Cup in Qatar due to ankle injury

MADRID, 3 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) -

German striker Timo Werner will miss the next World Cup in Qatar with his national team, where the four-time world champion is in the same group as Spain, due to the ankle injury that occurred this Wednesday in the Champions League.

The 26-year-old RB Leipzig footballer damaged his joint in the 0-4 win in Warsaw against the Ukrainian Shakhtar Donetsk in the last match of the Champions League group stage. The international was injured after a tackle by Taras Stepanenko at the start of the match and had to be replaced by the Swedish Emil Forsberg, confirming the worst omens on Thursday.

"Medical tests this Thursday in Leipzig showed that he unfortunately tore the syndesmosis ligament in his left ankle and will therefore be out for the remainder of 2022," the Bundesliga club said.

Werner, author of 24 goals in 55 games for Germany, was recovering his best level this season on his return to the Bundesliga and after a discreet year at English Chelsea. In fact, this campaign he already had nine goals with RB Leipzig.
