González insists on the moratorium on European standards that "suffocate" producers with bureaucratic and environmental "obstacles"

The acting Rural Minister, José González, has asked the Government of Spain for "more forcefulness" in "defending the interests" of ranchers and farmers in the European Union.

In statements to the media from Santa Comba (A Coruña), where he attended the XXXII Autonomous Friesian Breed Competition 'Fefriga 2024', González has reiterated his postulates already conveyed through a letter this week to the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food , Luis Planas, facing the Council of Ministers of the sector that will be held this Monday in Brussels.

The head of Rural Affairs of the Xunta - in office - has insisted that Spain must adopt "a strong" and "active" stance in a context of protests in the primary sector that have spread throughout Europe and have also reached Galicia.

According to José González, farmers and ranchers are denouncing "an exhaustion with European legislation that imposes bureaucratic obstacles" and "environmental demands" that "jeopardize the economic viability of farms."

Thus, the acting Regional Minister of the Rural Environment, with "maximum institutional loyalty", demands that the minister, given the upcoming "important modifications" that there will be in the European legislation of the sector, Spain requests "an immediate and temporary moratorium" on this regulation that "is suffocating" the producers.

In this context, the Xunta is committed to "reconsidering" measures such as the digital notebook and the farm veterinarian, among others, which must now be "suspended" and in the future be "flexible" so that they are gradually incorporated.

The Galician Government also urges the State Government to "immediately" modify the food chain law to make effective the prohibition of sales at a loss.

José González attended this Saturday the Fefriga 2024 fair in Santa Comba, which he highlighted as a "reference" as well as evaluating its more than 30 editions.

Not in vain, the acting councilor has claimed the support of the regional administration for these sectoral events, which this year once again have a line of specific aid initially endowed with 200,000 euros and whose application period is open until the 31st. October.

Since this event in Santa Comba, González has stressed that the regional government will continue to support livestock farming, an "absolutely fundamental" sector due to the employment it generates.

In addition, he has celebrated the general situation of "stability" that the dairy sector is now experiencing with a sustained increase in average prices, production and billing.
