At least five people have died and more than 40 have been injured this Monday as a result of a morning attack by the Russian Armed Forces against the city of Krivói Rog, located in the Dnipropetrovsk region and birthplace of President Volodimir Zelensky.

According to the regional governor, Sergei Lisak, a large part of the injured are in a mild condition with "lacerations and sharp wounds" or, in some cases, fractures. In addition, among the more than 40 injured there are at least four minors, as he has detailed on his official Telegram channel.

"The Russians fired two rockets into the city. One rocket hit the four-story building of the educational institution. There are probably people under the rubble. Rescuers and police are working," Interior Minister Igor Klimenko said.

According to the person in charge of the Interior portfolio, the emergency teams are now immersed in the work of extinguishing the fire caused by the impact of the missile, as well as cleaning the area and removing the rubble. "There may still be people there. Rescue operations are ongoing," he said.

In fact, the balance of victims has been increasing since the authorities confirmed the impact of the missile. The latest report from the emergency services confirms the death of five people in an event that leaves 43 injured for the moment. In addition, part of a badly damaged building has collapsed, according to the UNIAN agency.

President Zelenski has released a message on his official social network X profile -- formerly known as Twitter -- lamenting the incident and accusing Russia of continuing to "terrorize peaceful cities and people" in Ukraine, especially after the attacks on Krivói Rog and Jersón, where another person has died.

"Residential buildings, a university building, a crossroads were attacked. Unfortunately, there are dead and injured. There may be people under the rubble. My condolences to all those who have lost their loved ones due to Russian terror," he said. President Zelensky.

"In recent days, the enemy has been stubbornly attacking cities, city centers, bombing civilian property and homes. But this terror will not scare us or break us. We are working and saving our people," the Ukrainian president concluded.
