The US detected two Russian fighter jets near Alaska

The US authorities explain that "this Russian activity occurs on a regular basis and does not pose a threat"

MADRID, 20 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The US Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) intercepted two Russian fighter jets entering the Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) of the state of Alaska, in the north of the American continent.

In a statement published this Wednesday, the United States reported that on Monday, April 17, it "detected, located, identified, and intercepted" the two aircraft, which remained in international airspace.

"This Russian activity in the North American ADIZ occurs on a regular basis and does not pose a threat, nor is it considered provocative activity," they explained.

They have also detailed that the planes are two TU-95 model bombers, escorted out of Alaskan defense airspace by several US aircraft.

NORAD records an annual average of six to seven interceptions by Russian military aircraft, which it detects using a network of satellites, radars, and aircraft that fly over North American airspace.
