The US defends that its focus is to support Ukraine in its counteroffensive against kyiv's demands to enter NATO

BRUSSELS, 5 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) -

The United States has defended this Wednesday to focus on supporting Ukraine to launch a counteroffensive that allows it to retake land occupied by Russia, leaving aside the issue of NATO membership for the moment, despite noting that the door of the military organization remains open for Kiev .

"Our attention is focused right now on doing what is necessary to help Ukraine defend itself against Russian aggression and, indeed, to help it retake more of the territory that Russia has seized. That is our most intense focus," the minister explained. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at a press conference after the allied foreign minister meeting in Brussels.

Thus, despite pointing out that NATO's doors are still open for Ukraine, it has emphasized that the Ukrainian forces can retake territory and, in the medium term, continue the work at a technical level so that the Ukrainian Army can modernize itself. and is close to NATO standards.

In his opinion, preparing Kiev to defend itself and repel aggression has to do with increasing the interoperability of its forces with those of the allies. "We are focused on practical steps that can be taken to bring Ukraine closer to NATO standards," he added.

During the meeting on Tuesday, NATO held a meeting of the joint commission with Ukraine in which the Ukrainian authorities asked for a clear roadmap for their entry into the Atlantic alliance, which, in the opinion of the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dimitro Kuleba , is a "strategic solution" for security in the Euro-Atlantic area.

"NATO and Ukraine need each other. There is no better strategic solution to guarantee security in the Euro-Atlantic area than Ukraine's entry into the alliance," Kuleba said in statements to the press.
