The US Attorney's Office announces the beginning of a special investigation into the son of President Biden

The United States Attorney General, Merrick Garland, announced this Friday the appointment of Delaware State Attorney David Weiss as a special investigator in a case involving Hunter Biden, son of United States President Joe Biden, given the " extraordinary circumstances" of a scandal that has become a political argument against the current tenant of the White House.

Hunter Biden pleaded guilty in June to a series of misdemeanors for irregularities on his income tax return, including non-payment of taxes. However, the exact terms of his guilty plea were never settled on an additional firearms possession charge. While this matter is in litigation, Biden's son remains found not guilty.

Garland explained that Weiss contacted him on Tuesday of this week to tell him that his investigation had reached the limit and that, in order to continue with his work, he had to receive the special order that has ended up being confirmed this Friday.

Hunter Biden's lawyer, Chris Clark, is confident that there will be "a fair resolution" after five years of investigations, "whether in Delaware, in Washington or anywhere else." In this sense, he hopes that the case can be closed so that the president's son, who has acknowledged addiction problems in the past, can "get on with his life."

Hunter Biden also faces a potential GOP-led congressional investigation into what House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer describes as the Biden family's "shady dealings." The speaker of the House of Representatives, also a Republican Kevin McCarthy, has come to suggest this week that he could support a possible investigation against the president himself that could acquire the category of 'impeachment' or political trial.

It should be noted that prosecutor David Weiss, who is already examining the case against Hunter Biden as state attorney, was nominated in 2017 by then-president Donald Trump, and ratified by the Republican Senate a year later. With Weiss's nomination, the federal Administration would like to clear up all doubts about any accusation of partisanship in favor of Biden's son.

In fact, a spokesman for the Trump campaign, Steven Cheung, has reacted to the opening of a special investigation by pointing out that Biden's "cartel" has been "protected" by the Department of Justice for years, despite "overwhelming evidence." However, he has questioned the independence of the prosecutor, since he "has not presented adequate charges after four years of investigations," according to a statement collected by CNN.
