The US approves a sale to Spain of Patriot air defense systems worth 2.6 billion euros

MADRID, 5 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The United States Department of State has approved a sale to Spain of Patriot air defense systems and related equipment worth $2.8 billion (approximately €2.6 billion).

Specifically, the Joe Biden Administration reports that the Spanish Government has requested the purchase of four modernized Patriot Configuration 3 fire units that consist of 51 missiles, 24 launching stations and four engagement control stations, among other elements that They also include communications equipment and power generators, which will be from Raytheon Corporation and Lockheed Martin.

"This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by improving the security of a NATO ally, which is an important force for the political stability and economic progress of Europe," notes Washington.

In this sense, the US side considers that the proposed sale "will improve Spain's anti-missile defense capacity, increase the defensive capabilities of its Armed Forces and support the objective of improving national and territorial defense and interoperability with US forces and NATO."

In June, the State Department reported the sale to Spain of 271 M982A1 Excalibur tactical projectiles for an estimated amount of 48.2 million dollars (44.5 million euros).
