The UN has called on the Taliban to restore Afghan women and girls their "dignity" and "rights" on the second anniversary of their coming to power.

"Those who hold power in Afghanistan must return to women and girls the rights and dignity that belong to them, that every man, woman and child has," said the deputy spokesman for the United Nations Secretary, Farhan Haq, in a Press conference.

"But what we have seen has been almost weekly setbacks in Afghanistan over the past two years, which are further and further alienating the women and girls of Afghanistan from the Human Rights that are theirs. And this (...) is alienating the development country that any other nation should have," Haq added.
