The Slovenian Prime Minister says together with Sánchez that he will recognize Palestine but when there is more consensus

The Prime Minister of Slovenia, Robert Golob, stated this Tuesday that his country is willing to recognize the Palestinian State, although he has avoided talking about dates and has indicated that they will do so when there is more consensus on the matter.

Golob made these statements at a press conference from the Presidential Palace in Ljubljana, together with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, who traveled to Slovenia as part of a tour of European countries to gather support for the recognition of Palestine as a State, a decision that he hopes to make official before the summer as he recently stated.

"I would not like to talk about times and a schedule, because this whole situation and the solutions depend on the circumstances that surround us. But I believe that in a prudent time and when there is a greater council regarding this situation, we can take the steps adequate," he said in a statement without questions.

Next, Sánchez pointed out that Spain and Slovenia have agreed that they will recognize the State and will do so: "when circumstances transfer that positive impact" in a process that, as he has pointed out, has to lead to a ceasefire and a diplomatic solution. and politics to this crisis.

Sánchez trusts that carrying out this recognition will serve to send "a message of hope" to the millions of Gazans who suffer the consequences of the war and for other Western countries to also take that step.

The objective, as he stressed, is to launch a political process "among equals" that will lead to a just and lasting peace for the Palestinian and Israeli peoples.

Sánchez's trip to Slovenia is part of a tour of several European countries and meetings with prime ministers to rally support for the recognition of the Palestinian State. Last Friday Sánchez was in Norway, where he staged his meeting with the Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Store, as soon as the circumstances arise. Furthermore, both appealed to the role played by Madrid and Oslo in the conflict in the Middle East to vindicate the need to join forces for peace.

That same day, in the afternoon, Sánchez traveled to Dublin and from there he stated that he hopes to take the step of recognizing Palestine "in coordination" with Ireland, one of the EU countries with a position closest to that of Spain. In addition, Prime Minister Simon Harris stated that this decision is "closer."

Furthermore, this Monday, Sánchez received his Portuguese counterpart, Luís Montenegro, at La Moncloa, and they also addressed the situation in the Middle East, although in this case he distanced himself from Sánchez's plan and assured that for the moment Portugal was not going to go "so far away" like Spain.

The head of the Spanish Executive will continue his round of visits to European leaders and this Wednesday he will meet in Brussels with the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Luc Frieden and on Thursday he will do the same with his counterparts from Belgium, Alexander De Croo and Malta, Robert Abela, as indicated this Tuesday by the spokesperson for the Executive Pilar Alegría, in the press conference after the Council of Ministers.
