The Slovak Prime Minister will veto Ukraine's entry into NATO to avoid World War III

MADRID, 20 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, warned this Saturday that his country will veto any attempt by Ukraine to join NATO because it could mean "the beginning of World War III."

"I am against Ukraine's entry into NATO. I will use the right of veto to veto it because it could provoke the start of the Third World War," Fico said in a radio interview in which he also rejected helping Kiev with weapons.

Fico has instead speculated on Ukraine's entry into the EU, which he would have no objection to as long as it met the accession criteria.

Fico is scheduled to meet next Wednesday, January 24, with his Ukrainian counterpart, Denis Shmihal, although a joint press conference has not been scheduled due to the Ukrainian refusal, as Fico himself has revealed.

Fico has explained that he will convey to Shmihal his rejection of Ukraine's entry into NATO. "This is of great importance to me," he stressed, while he stressed that Ukraine is under "absolute influence of the United States."

As for the conflict itself, he has speculated on a territory agreement to achieve peace. "There has to be some kind of agreement that will be very painful for both parties. What do they expect? For the Russians to leave Crimea, Donbas and Lugansk? It is not realistic," she argued.
