The PSOE says in a letter to Reynders that the PP has changed its mind regarding pardons and the amnesty law

BRUSELAS, 15 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The leaders of the PSOE in the European Parliament, Javier Moreno and Iratxe García, also president of the group of European Socialists and Democrats (S

To this end, they have sent to the community bodies a report that brings together the information published last weekend in 16 national media that points to an openness to considering a pardon for Puigdemont according to sources from the Popular Party that the socialists identify as Feijóo himself.

"In the meeting (with the media) he made several statements that prove that his political position against the pardons granted by the Spanish Government and the amnesty law proposed by the PSOE are based on an accusation that he himself considers false or on values that the PP itself does not respect when it negotiates," García and Moreno criticize in the letter sent to Reynders, but also to the vice president of the Community Executive in charge of the rule of law, Vera Jourova.

The socialists have also sent the same letter to the president of the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) commission of the EP, the socialist Juan Fernando López Aguilar; to the working group for the supervision of democracy and the rule of law that reports to the same parliamentary commission; and the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, a body outside the EU but which is also currently examining the amnesty law, at the request of the Senate.

The document includes links to all the articles published on Saturday, based on the 'off the record' meeting with 'popular' sources from the 16 media, and emphasizes that despite having different editorial lines, the content of what is reported coincides.

Among the keys that the PSOE has wanted to convey to Brussels is that Feijóo believes in "the need for a reconciliation plan" with Catalonia, because they consider that this means recognizing that there is a "serious political conflict."

They also highlight that the 'popular' leader is open to considering a "conditional pardon" for Carles Puigdemont and this "despite having stated on several occasions that the pardons granted by the Government were unacceptable from both a political and constitutional point of view." .

Likewise, PSOE MEPs tell Reynders, Feijóo admitted that they spent "at least 24 hours evaluating the viability" of a possible amnesty law, within the framework of PP negotiations with Junts, and acknowledged that it will be "difficult" for the judges see crimes of terrorism in Puigdemont's actions despite the "insistence" of the PP.
