The protests in Ferraz leave more than 70 detainees accused of disorders and attacks on authority

The protests in the vicinity of the PSOE headquarters on Ferraz Street in Madrid leave a balance of more than 70 detainees, accused by the Police of crimes of public disorder, disobedience and attack against an agent of authority, since they began on the 3rd. of November as a sign of rejection of the amnesty law and the investiture pacts of the Government of Pedro Sánchez.

Sources from the Ministry of the Interior consulted by Europa Press count a total of 76 detainees in the successive protests next to the national headquarters of the PSOE, of which 47 have been brought to justice and 29 have been released.

Of the 18 nights of protests, arrests have been recorded on ten for different altercations, according to the count of the Government Delegation in Madrid, which has evidence of at least six minors among those arrested.

In the demonstrations, groups of far-right protesters have been repeatedly detected who have raised slogans against the Government and also thrown objects at the police line, sometimes trying to go over the fences placed by the 'riot police'.

The latest arrested is the journalist Vito Quiles who, after leaving police stations, has reported on social networks that he had suffered an illegal detention. The Police arrested him accused of disobedience and resistance for allegedly "fighting" with an agent of the device that was cordoning off the protesters last night to avoid, for another day, traffic being cut off in Ferraz, according to police sources.

His arrest joins that of two other journalists from 'El Mundo' and 'El Español', in their case accused of allegedly throwing objects at the police on November 15, a night that resulted in 15 arrests. Both newspapers announced that they are studying legal actions for false accusations in defense of their workers.

In parallel, the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, filed a complaint with the State Attorney General's Office on November 13 against Javier Negre, director of EDATV, for "pointing out" on his profile on the social network to some of the police officers to "encourage them to be publicly identified."

The first arrest in the vicinity of Ferraz was carried out on Friday, November 3, at the start of the protests against the amnesty law, and was motivated by jumping the police cordon. The day with the most arrests, with 24, was Thursday, November 9, a day that also left seven police officers injured, none of them seriously.

On Saturday, November 18, the National Police seized a pistol from a second lieutenant of the Army, stationed at the General Academy of Zaragoza, in one of the access filters to Ferraz. The soldier was proposed for sanction for violation of Organic Law 4/2015 on the Protection of Citizen Security, known by his detractors as the 'gag law'.

Different Vox leaders, including its president, Santiago Abascal, have joined the protests in Ferraz amid calls for the demonstrations to take place without violence.

After the inauguration of Pedro Sánchez as President of the Government, the Vox deputy Javier Ortega Smith reproached the Ferraz police officers for having agents who were "exceeding their duties", which was harshly criticized by different police unions that came out in defense of his colleagues from the Police Intervention Unit (UIP).
