The OCU denounces that the price of olive oil is "skyrocketing", with increases that exceed 30%

MADRID, 8 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) has denounced that the price of olive oil is "skyrocketed" and within the reach of "a few", while asking the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food to increase control of the production chain of this 'liquid gold'.

Specifically, the OCU has warned in a press release that since last July, increases in the price of olive oil, in some cases, exceed 30% and a liter "easily" reaches 10 euros.

"The objective of this control is to avoid abuses and prevent any speculation that has such negative effects for both consumers and farmers," highlighted the OCU.

The OCU has explained that the price of extra virgin olive oil, known as AOVE, has risen by 15.4% since the first half of July.

He has also detailed that they are not based on "impressions", since the OCU has carried out a price survey in 10 supermarket chains, comparing the cost of 19 brands of extra virgin olive oil at the beginning of July compared to that recorded at the end of August.

The OCU has stressed that it has verified that, in just a month and a half, the price increase has been generalized and affects almost all brands in all the chains analyzed.
