The 'number two' of the political wing of Hamas dies in a drone attack in Beirut

At least six people have died this Tuesday, including the 'number two' of the political arm of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Saleh al Arouri, after a drone attack on one of the offices of the Palestinian militia in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.

The attack, which also left several injured, took place in one of the Hamas offices in Mushrifiya, located in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, according to the Lebanese news agency NNA.

At first, the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah has confirmed to local media that Al Arouri is among the dead. Subsequently, it was the Palestinian organization itself which, through a statement, condemned the "cowardly murder" of Israel, which for the moment has not commented.

"The cowardly murders carried out by the Zionist occupation against the leaders and symbols of our people inside and outside Palestine will not break the will and steadfastness of our people or undermine the continuation of their brave resistance," said Izzat al Rishq. , a senior Hamas official.

Al Rishq has declared that this attack is yet another example of the "enemy's abject failure to achieve any of its aggressive attacks in the Gaza Strip." In addition to being 'number two' in the political arm of Hamas, Al Arouri was also one of the commanders of the military branch, the Al Qassam Brigades.

In Lebanon since 2018, Al Arouri has been detained in Israeli prisons for twelve years before he was released in 2010. He is blamed for several attacks against Israel from Lebanese soil. He has been one of the main intermediaries in the release of the hostages taken by Hamas on October 7.

A month ago, in statements to the Al Jazeera television network, he stated that the rest of the prisoners were soldiers or former soldiers and that they would not be released until Israel ended its attacks on the Gaza Strip.
