The judge investigating the case against Trump has received dozens of death threats and harassing calls

MADRID, 7 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Judge Juan Merchan, who is instructing the case against former United States President Donald Trump in the context of the alleged bribery of porn actress Stormy Daniels, has received "dozens of death threats and harassing calls" in recent days, as reported by sources close to the magistrate to the ABC network.

Most of the intimidation against the magistrate has been carried out by telephone or in the form of "death threats by email" and takes place after Trump accused the judge of lack of impartiality for having been "appointed" by the Prosecutor who presented the charges against the former president.

Trump also recalled that the magistrate had investigated the case that led to a conviction for fraud against his company, the Trump Organization, and even went so far as to state that Merchan held personal hostility for him. "He hates me," Trump wrote on his Truth Social network.

In their court appearance Tuesday, Trump's lawyers sought to downplay the former president's written attacks on the magistrate, qualifying that the former president was simply considering, broadly speaking, that he was being subjected to "a grave injustice." ".

For his part, a spokesman for the US Court Administration Office has limited himself to commenting to ABC that the department has increased the security of its workers since the beginning of the process against the former president.

"Over the past few weeks we have continued to assess security issues as well as potential threats and have maintained a heightened security presence in and around the courts," the spokesperson said.
