The Government starts the second phase to connect high speed with the Madrid Barajas airport

MADRID, 26 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has started the second phase of work to connect the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport to the high-speed rail network through the tender for a new contract.

This is a project valued at 18.6 million euros to install signage in the connection of the high-speed network between Madrid Chamartín-Clara Campoamor and the airport, as reported by the Ministry in a statement.

Specifically, it has put out to tender the deployment of equipment and signaling systems for the new 8.8 kilometer connection that runs between the station and the airport, which includes interlockings (systems that remotely manage the signals of a section of railway), blockades and track circuits (devices that control the presence of trains on the tracks) and the Asfa train control and command system, among others.

These devices will be updated in the part of the connection already built, through which the Cercanías service is currently provided between Chamartín and terminal T-4 of the airport, and will be installed in the newly built section.

The new high-speed link with Barajas will take advantage of part of the Cercanías line, specifically, the section between the airport access tunnel and T-4, since it has a mixed or three-wire track.

To complete it, a 3.5 kilometer route of new standard gauge line (the one that uses high speed) is already being built between the northern head of Chamartín and the access tunnel to the airport.

The new connection will make possible the arrival of high-speed trains to the country's first airport, a service that will be added to and compatible with the Cercanías service, allowing access to the high-speed corridors of the north, the Levante, and those of the southern corridor. and, soon, through a link under construction, those of the Barcelona corridor.
